  • I have read the bible before, To my understanding the knowledge of Good and Evil is in our hearts............

Can you do good without believing in God? Yes of course

But what will stop you from doing Bad, You know its Bad, but somene can say it makes me feel Good, I will do it anyway, there is no absolute Moral law, to impede you from doing Bad...

Even when giving an absolute Law people still do what they want, The law is there to condenm and make you aware of the Sin you have commited.

  • Another christian who only does good things and refrains from doing bad out of promise of reward and fear of retribution.

You're seriously telling me that the only reason you don't do bad things is because you'll get punished, then have the audacity to think that christians have the higher moral ground?

  • Hi Brit,

speaking for me, I do it for the respect, and love I have for God. It is by our actions we show our love for someone.

Does a husband/Wife not cheat, abuse their partners becuase its unlawful? Its Not becuase of Fear of prison or looking for a reward, but because you love them enough to never hurt them.

when you love you fear to do wrong to that someone. Not becuase you are afraid, but becuase you dont want to lose that someone, God loves us, but hates Sin.

    This is my view

  • Well I think that's a much healthier view than most christians I've encountered :) I suppose for me it's the same but with god removed from the equation - e.g. it's out of respect and love for fellow human beings and other living creatures that I strive to do right.

  • So if your up bring was influenced by Christianity or by the bible, then your basis for your own interpretation of morality based upon the bible since it was your up bringing?

  • Not really, I'd hardly call Church of England a "religious upbringing"! ;) My parents are agnostic/indifferent and religion in terms of morals featured little in school. I'd say that it may have been there a little, but my morals are primarily derived from non-religious sources.

Great question, thanks for asking! :)

  • Morality is rooted entirely in the presupposition that some higher power defines what is correct for human behavior...

    -

Nature is pure war with every man against another, fear of death is the only way to keep the peace, so man is civilized by the threat of violence against him for transgressions upon his neighbor.

    -

Since most men believe their weenies come from heaven, this gives them (in their minds) a sanctified excuse to pass the collection plate at gunpoint for the gods of communism...

  • Haha that's a good one! Mind if I borrow that? :)

  • When religiotards claim that there is no meaningful definition of good and evil without a divine arbitrator to dictate them, i like to point out that this is equivalent to saying that there would be no distinction between food and poison without some perfect plate of spaghetti and meatballs against which to compare all substances.

  • Who defines good?

    What is truth?
