Vienna is the capital of Austria with a population of about 1.7 million and it is the 10th largest city in the European Union. The city centre was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded around 500 BC, Vienna was originally a Celtic settlement. In 15 BC, Vienna became a Roman frontier city (Vindobona) guarding the Roman Empire against Germanic tribes. During the Middle Ages Vienna was home to the Babenberg Dynasty. It became resident of the Habsburg Dynasties. In 1804 it became the capital of the Austrian Empire. After World War I Vienna became the capital of the First Austrian Republic. In 1945 the Soviets successfully launched the Vienna offensive against Nazi Germany who were holding Vienna. On May 15, 1955 The Austrian State Treaty was signed and Austria became a free country again. Vienna has a lot of amazing sights and it is my hometown.

Vienna is beautiful. I didn't know that it is so old. If I ever get to Europe, I must see Vienna. Thank you, Lupo, for sharing this.
