Riu, riu, chiu is a Spanish villancio from an anonymous composer. This song came from a performance of the Nashville Early Music Ensemble at the Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Nashville, TN on Tuesday, November 25, 2008. The Ensemble is designed to perform the vocal and instrumental music of the Medieval and Renaissance periods as well as folk music from several world cultures. The twenty-seven member ensemble features musicians with diverse musical backgrounds but all with experience in early music. Instruments used by the ensemble include viols, lutes, guitars, ud, psaltery, harp, violin, recorders, sackbut, and a wide variety of percussion. The singers perform in original languages. The ensemble director is Dr. Gerald Moore, a retired music professor from Lipscomb University, who taught music theory and directed the university Early Music Consort for over twenty-five years.
@vicentesenent I know this was 2 years ago but The way they are singing it is the correct form " Dios guardo EL lobo de nuestra cordera" same meaning as if it would say Dios guardo del lobo a nuestra cordera". I kinda understand them singing "AL lobo" but is a pronunciation problem as Spanish is clearly not their 1st language as English is not my 1st language.

The original text is "Dios guardó el lobo de nuestra cordera" and that's how people understood it in the 16th century. Check the original Cancionero de Uppsala facsimile. "Guardar" may also mean "invigilate", "put away by hiding". "God put away the wolf from our lamb"
