This is the newest little gem amp I've made. It's made out of a cigar box using a 4" speaker from a computer subwoofer. I used a 10k ohm pot for the gain because the 5k ohm from radio shack was really long. I had most of the parts for the circuit already from salvaging from other electronic devices. The only parts I got from radioshack were the 25 ohm rheostat, 10k ohm pot, and the L386 IC CHIP. Below is a running total. The parenthesis is what it would cost @ Radioshack.

So racking total

Cigar box =$1
Speaker =$2
L386 Chip =$2
25k rheostat $3
10k ohm pot $3
Wire = Owned ($7)
Solder = Owned ($5)
Proto Board=Owned (2 for $2)
220 uf cap =Owned ($2)
100 uf cap =Owned ($2)
10k resistor=Owned ($1)
.01 ceramic cap=Owned ($2)
.047 ceramic cap=Owned ($2)
Guitar Input Connector =Owned (2 for $5)

There are online websites that are way cheaper if you're just starting out and don't have a collection of components.

www.mouser.com is one of my favorites.
