D-Day +434 the Americans receive the under conditional surrender of the Empire of Japan. Every man in the 101st Airborne would be going home, regardless of points, medals or wounds. The 101 were facing re-deployment to Japan to take part in the imminent invasion of the Japanese Home islands.

'Do you remember the letter that Mike Ranney wrote me..?' 'You do?' ' Do you remember how he ended it? I cherish the memories of a question my grandson asked me the other day.. when he said Grandpa.. were you a hero in the war?.. Grandpa said no.. but i served in a company of Heroes'.

The ending session with Major Winters has me in tears every single time I see it, especially now that he's no longer with us. I hope he has found his way to his fellow heroes up in heaven and that they still play baseball together... RIP Major Richard D. Winters
