This is a home movie that my Dad took of the Ash Wednesday storm damage at Nags Head, NC. My grandparents owned Mann's Recreation Center and you can see how the roof collapsed and the building filled with sand. The Nags Head Fishing Pier is visible, what was left of it. You can also see the Beach Road (NC Highway 12, South Virginia Dare Trail) (there was no bypass at the time) and how the sand has washed over the road. Starring my uncle, Bryan Mann, and cousins, Daniel Mann and Anna Mann Lynch.

  • Today is March 8, 2012, the 50th anniversary of the 3rd day of this storm. My family had a house in south Nags Head which was so damaged by the storm that it could not be saved. I remember Mann's recreation center and was about the age of the children at the end of the movie at the time. I miss that house to this day. It was such a great time to be a kid and we had such great summers there....I will never forget.
