Christianity: What Went Wrong?

A discussion of the major trajectory away from the teachings of Jesus onto which the Catholic Church(and all organized Christianity) has gone.

In the last 50 years, scholars of human consciousness evolution have identified three levels of mental development. These are three major shifts in human consciousness which - across ALL cultures - always occur in the same order:

1. Fundamentalism
2. Rationalism
3. Multi-Cultural Pluralism

Human consciousness evolves towards inclusion and tolerance......... It doesn't start there.

Spiritual advancement necessitates evolving consciousness because evolving consciousness takes one out of their own self absorbed and defensive ego.

In plain English: what Christ was all about was moving away from self - and selfishness.

American Catholicism is plagued by far too many bishops who have stopped evolving, and the ones who have evolved have been shouted down by those who haven't. These more evolved bishops represent a real threat to hard line fundamentalists, who see these more pluralistic bishops as luke warm capitulators to rational secularism. The fact is they aren't capitulating to secularism, they have moved beyond fundamentalism.

No different than Jesus, who moved way beyond Jewish legalism, and for which He was condemned to death.

Christ's crucifixion is a perfect example of how fundamentalists can not hear the invitation to evolve in wisdom, knowledge, and love. They hear a threat to the status quo, not an invitation to something better.

Those clergy and lay people who have even half a clue as to what Christ was really about - and have integrated His teachings into themselves......who have at least TRIED to advance spiritually....and manifest this in an overall concern for their brothers & sisters.....have been effectively gagged.

Footnote: If you consider the three stages described above, we can see a probable explanation for the seeming disconnect between the approach of God to humanity....in the Old Vs. New Testaments of the Bible.

If you think about it - you cannot explain the cosmos - much less God - to primitive man, mired in the Fundamentalism stage, in terms & constructs which are more readily understood by those in the Rationalism stage!

More complete understanding would ONLY be possible - at the higher stages - when humanity, as whole, evolves.

i'll tell you what went wrong. once it became the official STATE religions of much of the world, it became co-opted &corrupted. visions of money,and influence, and power danced thru their heads. they made un-holy alliances with the rulers of their days. if the rulers could keep their heads, the churches were rewarded with land,money,and power almost equal to their rulers

@19lfm12 I wish for the best for all glbt men and women, it saddens me every time a person is beaten or killed because they are gay, or commits suicide because the church or their family rejects them, then I remember "Oh yes, its the church promoting this whole anti-homosexuality issue". Why not focus all this energy on helping the poor and needy, the sick, and the homeless? They are focused on the wrong issues. I love your video btw.

@mythmanjay It depends whom you consider the 'contenders' to be. But ultimately, God wins.

Unfortunately the Vatican is under the self-induced delusion that it is God....or that it serves God. 1700 years of history tend to disprove that.

@smurfboywv Thank you. And...your point about focusing on the poor, sick & needy is correct. The church gives mere lip service to this. Yet it is the basis of Jesus' teaching & is identified in the Old Testament as 'what is acceptable to God'...rather then false piety or fanaticism.

To hate gay persons is contrary to the teaching of Christ. Period.

@Hbbt82 What is your point? Organized Xtianity has betrayed Christ again & again, using Him as a mere corporate logo & means of control. The Administrators of Religion (i.e. Vatican) do not even believe in God, nor is what He has revealed to man via Scripture, Prophecy & the words of Mary.

The edit out what condemns THEM & use the rest to manipulate ppl; rather then leading them to serve God by serving others.
