@MrJKapowey British troops patrolled the streets of Basra with Berets on in order to reassure the locals despite the fact that Basra was still an extremely dangerous combat zone. Plus its pretty badass and telling the Sontarans that "we're so hard, we don't even need helmets!"

Which imbecile thought it would be good to equip the body of your assault on the factory - humanities last chance as far as UNIT is concerned - with BERETS? In 'Doctor Who - UNIT Prepare for battle' they all have gas-masks on, in this they are wearing colourful targets on their head. You'd expect the Earth's elite anti-alien military force to be equipped with helmets, or even simple non-red headgear!
