That's a big shaft.

Modern ones are thin carbon fibre tube, weighing about 1/1000 of that with twce the strength and a lot tless maintenance.

@SteelerNation4327 I live in Bellingham, WA. and have been to Grand Coulee around 3 times passing through over the years on bicycle tours. Interesting powerhouse.
