Alan Meyer was one of the earliest (and most say , the First,) to bring an entire show to the stage in Honor of his mentor Elvis Presley. He even had the dubious title of being called "King of the Impersonators", a title he did not hold in too high esteem. He always liked to be referred to as a Tribute to Elvis, and not an Impersonator. Alan started his show in 1972 several years prior to Elvis' death and was often linked to other Elvis impersonators such as Johnny Harra, Rick Saucedo and a handful of others. It was Alan though who was managed by Dick Clark and who was essentially the one that all others looked to as perhaps the Best of that time. Of course, many others have come down the pike since Alan's Heyday when he appeared on many major TV shows such as the Jerry Lewis Telethon, The Donny and Marie Show , The Tonight Show and also toured Internationally with major stops in Japan, Europe, South Africa and Canada. Alan retired in 1978 with the exception of a few contractual dates and didn't tour again until 1982 when he formed a new band and played again in Las Vegas at The Dunes and also the Riviera and in shows throughout Texas , Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Alan retired again in 1991 and with the exception of a few small shows , he never really recaptured the momentum of his early days when he was touted as the richest and most successful of all the Tribute Artists of those days.

  • Yes,.. this particular video was from the year that Elvis died in 1977. Alan was performing at The Tropicana Casino Hotel at that time and was a regular there. He was called "The KING of The Tributes" in those days and was managed by Dick Clark of American Bandstand fame. He was also the first Tribute artist of any kind to make over a Million dollars in one year. Anyway, I had the Pleasure of working as Alan's guitarist from 1981-1991. Glad you enjoyed this!

  • Thanks for sharing what now looks like ancient video/audio. Wow! Thanks a lot!

  • I remember Alan was doing his Elvis show at The Tropicana in Las Vegas when Elvis died. He was one of the first to do an Elvis tribute.

  • this guy looks scarey

  • 3 FT TALL ELVIS

  • Can you wear a video out? lol Cause I've lost count on how many times I've watched this! You can't get any closer to perfection than this. The voice, the walk, the oozing sex appeal. And to think I saw this in person way back when. It's a miracle I survived!

  • HEY HOW CAN WE GET A COPY OF ALANS SHOWS MAN I LOVED THIS MUSIC SINCE 1970 SEEN ELVIS BUT NEVER ALAN UNTIL NOW ON VIDEO....SEEN TOUCH BY LOVE GREAT MOVIE AND ELVIS VOCALS

  • I remember Alan. My mom went to one of the Tropicana shows and bought his album The Elvis Presley Story. The album eventually wore out but I found a (still) mint condition copy in a record shop here in Vegas. I like his rendition of Promised Land. I was 4 or 5 when he was here so I never got to see the show. I even have an old promotional flyer and an apology letter from the Alan fan club regarding mismanagement of the club........Vegas history.

  • Alan was the first that I remember hearing of.

  • I consider myself one of Elvis biggest fans and I say your the Real Deal as far as Elvis tributes are concened.
