I'm pretty sure even on the corners the wider wheelbase on the Vette would beat an s54 m coupe.
Like most German performance cars, the coupe is all about grip, compact design and utilitarian aesthetic sensibilities....and NOT about stomping the gas on a back road while yelling "yyyyeeeeeaaaaaww" at the top of your lungs.
As for Corvettes, they are a glaring exception to Americas universally crappy workmanship. They are great cars for the money.

If the Coupe had be been a Euro Spec engined car it would have creamed the Vette.
Throw some corners in to the equation it would have been game over for the cart sprung yank tank!
