The first step of the one-handed backhand progressions is to play from contact. Understanding your contact point is critically important and it's the first thing you should learn when trying to put your stroke together. Being in the body position we teach in this video will allow you to hit the ball correctly. Why are we starting with contact? Because you need to know where you're going in order to know how to get there. If you understand what contact looks and feels like on your one-handed backhand, you'll be able to tell if the rest of your technique is allowing you to get to that body position.

  • Will, what kind of racket is that?

  • great video. when hitting the backhand do are you suppose to put alot of power into it. And how do you get power on hit.

  • correct technique lets you hit with power and spin

  • Hey Will, your tutorials are the best. I was wondering if you get "tennis elbow" after hitting backhands a lot? Thanks again

  • Hi Shawn, thanks. You can get tennis elbow from overplaying but it's not a guarantee. If you feel like you're getting it you should stop and rest for a day or so.
