I live in Windhoek and I feel pround and happy that you liked it in Nasmibia. It makes me feel good to know poeple like Namibia...I THINK THAT SOMETIMES AS AFRICANS WE BRINK OUR SELF DOWN BEFORE OTHERS GET THE CHANCE. For a country like Namibia with the lowest population dencity in the world our capital is a rarity. Its extreamly large compaired to the population. Thank you for loving my home.

Namibia is quite dry and water is a big problem but they still have nice green parks. Etosha National Park (100 miles E to W) was they highlight of my stay. If you want to view my pics you can at Webshots (Do a search on "coopec100". Cheers

I have been infatuated with Windhoek for years. I got youtube was able to finally get some sort of perspective on the place. It has made me even more curious. Such a modern city in a place that to me was only ever in the news for war and poverty.
From satellite pics, it appears to have very nice areas and large middle class areas, but my black students are always so happy to see this as an example of Africa. We get only poverty and shacks in rare new reports. Nice to see something else!

I would love to be there. It looks so cool

Thanks for that. What you say makes a lot of sense. When a white farmer decides to sell his farm the Government has first option to buy. When I asked whether they were prepared to pay a reasonable price the answer was "yes". I was impressed!

No, Namibia was a protectorate of South Africa until 1990 and, as such, had apartheid just like SA. The comparative lack of crime is due, I suspect, to two things; first, Namibia has a much lower population density than SA and, second, the SWAPO government decided to treat whites comparatively amicably, unlike places like Zimbabwe.

No, the crime rate is nowhere as bad as South Africa and I suppose that is because there was no apartheid. There is also much less racism. I think most crime would be because there are pockets of poverty - people do crime to survive. Tourists should take normal care in Namibia.
people speak german in their everyday life or its only a cultural language?

I am not the one to ask. (maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong). English is the official language in Namibia - all traffic /advertising/shop signage is in English. All education in schools is English. Some people speak tribal languages but the main spoken lamguage is Afrikaans. German is spoken but only culturally. Germany has had a tremendous influence historically on Namibia so it is not surprising that every second tourist seems to be German!
