Part 2. By popular demand, new views of the old set including the chassis. Marconi EMI model 706 904. The Oldest television still in service. Since 1936/37. Yes 1937. This old 5 inch television 405 lines, and combined 3 band radio has been preserved and still working well after 72 years. See it working. This set was purchased just after the trial period between the Marconi EMI system 405 line, and the John Logie Baird Mechanical system 220 lines on alternate weeks.

  • Gosh. How rare. Is it unrestored?

  • Hi Benjamin. Thanks for your comment. Yes it has been restored, but the top priority was to keep it as original as possible. Martin.

  • Does it come with HDMI? hehe just kidding, this is incredible! I look fondly on the old Ferguson black and white portable TV I have in the attic. But this makes my ferguson look light years apart!

Thanks for uploading, What are the dimensions of this TV?

  • Love Fawlty Towers!! Cool set too.

  • Wonderful! Pity we were stuck with 405 for so long though....

  • @weightfeather1 It may be an ion spot, that old crts had neither an ion trap nor an aluminized screen.

  • Will it run iplayer

  • I thought, how strange to have such a tiny little picture. Then i remembered that I was watching the You-Tube clip in windowed mode - about 2*3 inches. The future is now.

  • @martin2lo in that time? how much is this tv? what i mean in that year 1937? is it expensive?

  • Is this real? It got a fantastic image!

  • I found one of these in rather sad condition on a skip some years back. Mostly complete including the crt. The glass tuning dial was smashed and it was covered in builders rubble. I auctioned it at a BVWS meet so I hope it was restored.

I am amazed at the treasures that get trashed.

  • 405 lines, thats pretty cool for the date.
