The Asus Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X straddles the boundary between portable netbook and regular laptop. Although slightly larger and heavier than many of it's competitors, the 1005 boasts features (i.e. screen size, keyboard, battery life) that allows you to actually use it for serious tasks instead of just emailing and messing around on youtube.
After two weeks of use, I've found the 1005 to be a pleasure to use and a great value netbook for the money. If you're looking for a portable mini-laptop that's not just a toy you should check this out.

The 1005HA-PU1X features:
- Operating System: Genuine Microsoft Windows XP
- Display: 10.1-inch 1024x600 LED-Backlit Widescreen LCD (Color-Shine/Glossy Screen Technology)
- Intel CPU: Intel Atom N280
- Wireless Data Network: WLAN: 802.11b/g/n (draft 2.4GHz n) & Bluetooth V2.1 + EDR
- Memory: 1GB DDR-2 (Memory size is upgradable to 2GB)
- Hybrid Storage: 160GB HDD + 10GB Eee Online Storage**
- Camera: 1.3M Pixels
- Audio: Stereo Speakers, High-Definition Audio CODEC, Digital Array Microphones
- Storage Cards: 2-in-1 MMC, SD(SDHC) flash card slot
- Input/Output: 1 x VGA connector, 3 x USB 2.0 ports, 1 x LAN RJ-45, 2 x audio jacks: Headphone & Mic-in
- Battery: 10.5 hours* Li-Ion battery.†
- Dimensions: 10.31 (W) x 7.01 (D) x 1.02~1.44 (H) inches
- Weight: 2.81 lbs (with battery)
- Retail: Approx. $380 on Amazon.com with free shipping

Things I didn't like:
- The clamshell lid design flexes a bit
- I wish the screen were a matte finish (instead of gloss) in order to avoid glare
- The textured touchpad takes a little getting used to

This video was shot with a Canon G9 on loan.

  • Hey,

thanks so much for the praise. I really appreciate you watching. This netbook is by far one of the best buys I've made this year. Enjoy!

  • Its a single Hard drive w/ 4 partitions, two that are hidden.

  • Thanks so much for the comment.

    I've been wondering for ages.

Do you know if the F-key reboot feature will delete data on the d drive?

  • I just bought one of these cuties, really nice netbook, the one thing I absolutely love about it is battery life. Just amazing, you were right, I got a solid 8 hours using it hardcore with everything on. Your review was amazing, very informative. If you ever add a 2 gb ram chip to it, can you please make another vid to show us how different it is? I would greatly appreciate this because I'm not sure how much of a difference it could make.

    Thanks

  • fucking sucks

  • ESTA BELLA LA LAPTOP

  • i don't know y someone would want this...

  • Great review. I do think the glossy finish is a problem. Also, that F9 thing - does it leave the apps and data installed?

  • What is we get with it windows xp or 7 or vista?

  • I've had this laptop 2 years and never knew about the f9 system reboot. =) Thanks a lot..!!

  • A system restore cd is always important just incase if that hard drive fails and cannot boot up. I had a customer which wasn't able to load up windows 7 luckly she had the system restore cds (freaking 4 for some dumb reason bloatware).

  • this was filmed on 9/11 O.o

  • does maplestory run laglessly?

  • Transcribe Audio is hilarious! I can't even imagine what deaf people think.
