03.12.10 - Precipitation and warmer temperatures over the Red River Valley this week has accelerated the winter snow melt, but officials and weather forecasters are cautiously stating that this trend has not seriously affected the present flooding outlook.
Thursday's (03.11.10) river forecast predicts the Red River will reach 18.1 feet in Fargo-Moorhead around noon on Monday (03.15.10), crossing the minor flood stage, which begins at 18 feet. Major flood stage begins at 30 feet.
i was asking about 1997 snow levels as i see the snow levels are way higher then last year in the red river vally in nd. and somethings telling me were in for a big dump of snow and wanted to see how it compares to back then pre blizzard

The best I can tell you is that we have had record snowfalls over the past two winters and it is suggested that this winter's content is more saturated. I was not living in Fargo in 1997 so I can't comment on that pre-blizzard snow. I will continue to post YouTubes so you can see what is occurring in our area.

It all depends on who you talk to, concerning the water concentration in the snow amounts. It sure feels like the snow that I snowblowed this year was much more saturated with water than in 2008-2009. I'm hoping that the National Weather Service is on with their projections... in the meantime, we continue to sandbag...
