At the end when he lights his smoke his fire house actually had a pool going for who could go the longest without smoking. After they witnessed him bring the girl back from extinction they all shut up and let him have that smoke. Nothing left to say.

I love the whole scene at the end where Tommy lights up a ciggerratte even though there having a contest to see who can stop smoking and no one says anything to him.
