Saint Augustine is undoubtedly one of the greatest figures in the history of Christianity. And more than 1,600 years after his death, a new film about his life is hitting the silver screen.

Its a mini-series titled Augustine: The decline of the Roman Empire. Its an international effort produced by three production companies from Poland, Italy and Germany. The film also tells how his mother, Saint Monica, influenced Augustines conversion to Catholicism.

Monica Guerritore
Saint Monica
Saint Monica had a very clear vision of what Augustine could do in his life. She was certain. I think this was the light that she had and the why she left such a mark in history.

Monica Guerritore plays Saint Monica, in the film. She says playing such a big role was important to her on a deep level.

I didnt approach this role or others like Joan of Arc as a Catholic, but more as a human being curious about these larger than life figures that changed the course of history and took one path instead of another.

The pope, who admires Saint Augustine, got a private screening of the series.

Benedict XVI
In a context that is very remote for us today, weve seen how despite the reality of human life-with its problems, misfortunes, and failures-that the Truth is stronger in overcoming any obstacle and reaches the human person.

Benedicto XVI had the opportunity to meet Monica Guerritore and the rest of the films actors afterward, and he thanked them for their hard work in producing the film.

  • IS AMAZING HOW GOD TRIUNE IS HIS DIVINE WISDOM USES EVEN THE MOST UNUSUAL INDIVIDUALS TO DO HIS HOLY WILL - GOD' S INFINITE MERCY PROVIDES TO ALL INQUISITIVE MINDS TO REVEAL HIS GRACE, MERCY & GLORY TO SAVE US ALL NO MATTER CREED, FAITH OR CULTURE!!

THANK YOU LORD - JESUS CHRIST!!!

  • Where can we watch the whole finished thing?

  • @zizouzenati You are missing the whole point of his life and message to the world through his profund and beautiful wisdom about Jesus Christ. He explains how Jesus is present in every single aspect our our lives . In the good and bad times and justifies from any angle of life how we can't just leave without his LOVE and MERCY. Entiende? Don't be the kind of people who focus on a sesame seed on the table and misses the whole feast there is for them to enjoy!

  • @grandmasterc1982 You wil find not one single histroy book which tells you that his father was an italian not one. and specialy not that of the Romans. Unblievable how some people can not hanlde the wordwide known truth. sick freak.

  • @grandmasterc1982 Were the fuck did you got those stupid stories from ebven the ROAMNS themselves hjave never ever wrote that his father was Italian you lieing moron. His father wads en pure Amazigh from the Aures in Algeria his father was a idol worshippers. His mother was from Chartage and she was a pure Christian women you shit head. Why are you spreading here lies and you trying to take the hertiage of the North African. The whole wide world know that Augistinus of hippo was a Berber.

  • It's a tale of Wealthy Parents positioning their children for "greatness"

today we call them the Kardashian, Cyrus, Hilton, etc etc.

Our ancestors believed without critical thinking, but at least now we can call it for what it is and not some super-natural event when Paris or Kim releases a new sex tape.

  • @zizouzenati

His father was a Aurelia which suggest he wasnt pure Amazigh since Aurelians came from Italy. His mother is only assumed to have been Amazigh due to her name. And not all Amazigh are Muslim. I met plenty of Moroccans and Kabyle who are Roman Catholic. You clearly don't know the history of the Amazigh people. They were forced to be Muslim, women and children put into slavery by Muslim conquerers. Rome accepted Christianity. Al Magrib didnt accept Islam.

  • "I didnt approach this role or others like Joan of Arc as a Catholic, but more as a human being curious about these larger than life figures that changed the course of history and took one path instead of another". What a masssive failure on this actress' part. St Monica's Catholic faith is 100% who she was and what motivated her. To not approach her as a Catholic is to misunderstand her subject. This actress has some personal prejudice against the Catholic faith to take such an approach.
