WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY!!

I will only post the rows included in this tutorial, for the entire pattern please go to the first video. This is so that those who are beginning to learn how to read patterns will not become confused. You may find the entire pattern here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEk56PA2nP0

Rnd 13 1 hdc in each st. around. 86,94,102,110 sts.

Rnds 14 16 repeat rnd 12. [You can keep solid color or change colors as you wish. This creates the depth (how long and deep) your hat will be. Usually 3 to 4 rows for typical beret type hat, 5 to 8 rows for medium length and 9 to 12 rows for long dread hat.] 86,94,102,110 sts.

Rnd 17 1 hdc in next 7 sts. 1hdc dec using 2 sts. [making 1 dec] (1 hdc in next 8 sts, 1 hdc dec in next 2 sts.)* 78,86,94,102 sts.

NOT VISUALLY COVERED IN THIS TUTORIAL ARE ROUNDS 18-21 AS FOLLOWS:

Rnd 18 21 Same as rnd 17. Do this until the hat fits your head. Rnd 18 = 70,78,86,94 rnd 19= 62,70,78,86 Rnd 20 = 54,62,70,78 Rnd 21 = 46,54,62,70. Join color A on last row join.

FIRST ROW OF THIS PATTERN CHANGE COVERED:
Rnd 19 [using color A] 1 sc in each st around. Join color B using ss, ch 1. 46,54,62,70

Rnd 20 [using color B] same as rnd 19, join color A. 46,54,62,70

Continue to next video.

Please leave feedback so I can adjust if required for the other hat tutorial. I will not upload it until I know that the manner in which I am instructing is clear, concise and helpful without being too confusing.

  • hi Pinky, quick question.. once I'm done w/ rows 7-8 do i continue ALL AROUND on just 1-hdc? and if so do I always have to combine each row w/ a SS, followed by 1-over & THEN continue the pattern of 1-hdc?? confused cuz your 3rd tutorial just showed row 7 .. =(

  • Rnd 8 [in same color] 1hdc in next 7 sts, 2 hdc in next st. (1 hdc in next 8 sts, 2 hdc in next st)* join with ss, ch.1 78 sts.

Rnds 9-12 same as rnd 8. [You can keep solid color or change colors as you wish. This creates the (bend) or floppy part of your hat. 3 to 5 rows of this is recommended depending on how wide you want your hat to be.] 86,94,102,110 sts.

  • Hi,

Question!!! Why do my hat have waves? it does not stay flat like yours! Thanks

  • I'm sorry im soooo late with this comment! Try making your stiches a bit loose and not so tight, that may help. Experiment with how tight and loose you make them to see what works for you and your own crochet style.

  • is there a way you can add a bill to these hats.

  • Yes, but I do not have a non-copyrighted pattern for a bill to demonstrate it for you. Sorry. But if you google crochet patterns I'm sure you can find one and add it. Try crochetpatterncentral (dot) com.

  • hi pinky,i did the first row of decreases and how is the rest of the decreases rows go.thnks for your help, and my hat is coming beatifull!!!

  • and my hat is totally wavy. i know u said go loose...but i so am...and i dont thin that changed anything really...dont know if its the difference in quality of yarn (I'm in Trinidad btw) :)

  • Hey Pinky...whats up. Great tutorial! Just a lil problem...with Row 17, when u do 1hdc next 7 st 1 hdc dec in next 2 st (1 hdc in next 8 st, 1 hdc dec in next 2 sts). when i go to row 18, is it 1hdc in next 6 st 1 hdc dec in next 2 st (1 hdc in next 7 st 1 hdc dec in next 2 st? im worried that its not going to decrease to the extent like yours.

  • Now you're confusing me, lol where did you get 9 to 12 rows? It's row's numbered 9 thru 12 which = 3 rows total. perhaps 6as stated in the video for a longer hat. That would make it rows 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 for a long hat only. Yes rows and rounds are the same thing. I think what you are missing is the fact that the instructions for the original row REPEATS through the additional ones meaning you do the same combination of stitches as listed for each row/round listed.
