The tube only detects beta & gamma.The mantle contains thorium which is radioactive, when it decays alpha, beta & gamma are all released.The alphas are stopped by a few centimetres of air, or even a thickness of paper. Beta particles penetrate further, and willpenetrate the thin metalwallof the tube, as will gamma. Alpas cannot penetrate the wall, of the tube.
What the hell is in your hand if that was radioactive i would'nt have it anywhere where near me,so how are you testing it what is it have you got some crypton night from super man or what.
