THE KINGS & QUEEN OF COMEDY ASIA BRINGS A FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND COMEDY SPECTACULAR FEATURING COMEDIANS FROM ACROSS THE ASIAN CONTINENT
For the first time ever, The Comedy Club Asia brings to you a stand-up comedy spectacular featuring the best comics from across the Asian continent.
Showcasing five of Asia's best stand-up funnymen, The Kings & Queen of Comedy Asia is a one-night-only comedic extravaganza that puts together sidesplitting entertainment from India, Vietnam/Australia, Malaysia and Singapore.
Your MC (or "compere" amongst stand-up comedians) Kumar requires no introduction at all. As Singaporean as the ERP, Queen Kumar will be your hostess and guide, warming up the crowd before introducing her Kings.
Harith Iskander is a phenomenal performer who has received standing ovations in comedy clubs in Britain, the USA, the UK, Australia, the Middle East as well as being a household name in his home Malaysia. Known here as the star of Ah-ha (with fellow Malaysian comedian, Afdlin Shauki) and also the 'botak' dude from Phua Chu Kang, Harith's style is universal. He is smart, insightful and funny as hell.
Vir Das is India's undisputed stand-up King. He is a Bollywood star, Harvard graduate and was recently voted by a women's magazine as one of the most eligible bachelors in his homeland. But his real passion is stand-up comedy and they don't come much better than this.
Hung Le is a Vietnamese Australian based in Melbourne. He arrived in his adopted motherland as a 12-year-old refugee and fumbled and faked his way into the Aussie culture. His show is all about being Asian in what was once the most red-necked corner of white civilization. Hilarious.
Douglas Lim is a Hokkien Chinese who speaks Cantonese and English as he struggles to find a sweet spot in the land of the Bumiputera. Worldly and erudite, Douglas is a social commentator with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek.
"The line-up is diverse, the language is English and the laughs are universal," says Jonathan Atherton, Managing Director of The Comedy Club Asia. "This is a show that will appeal to Asians and 'ang mohs' alike because above all, it's damn funny lah!"
"Jokes aside, this is really a historical event. Whilst Asia has a long tradition of comedy—often involving acrobatics, music, illusion and other skills—this is stand-up comedy. The rawest form of comedy there is. No props, no tricks, no gimmicks. Just a microphone, a spotlight and an extremely talented performer who will seduce and stimulate the audience with words and ideas alone... and have them laughing till it hurts."
