I have a policy, no talking politics around the jukebox unless we all are drunk. Don't know about you but I am sober. Nevertheless, I just want to mention that we lost a real piece of Americana last night with the passing of Mary Travers. It doesn't matter whether you agreed or disagreed with her, Peter or Paul, just so that you understand that she understood the realization that there weren't too many countries where she and her cohorts could say the things they did in their music without being arrested and in some cases, beheaded. I can easily imagine Peter, Paul and Mary huddled around a microphone singing this Bobby Charles song. Mary, may you rest in peace.
Rest in Peace. God Bless your family

Great write-up and you are correct. Thanks for posting Louisiana's Bobby Charles, his songs are still played on Louisiana Swamp-Pop circuits. Love Bobby Charles.

Bobby really is amazing and his contributions to music have gone mostly unnoticed. As for Mary Travers, I had the opportunity to see her along with Peter and Paul at The Saenger Theater on Canal St. in New Orleans back in the early 80s. They are just beginning the process to refurbish it after the waters of Lake Pontchartrain found it way to the historic building by way of the 17th Street Canal when Katrina visited New Orleans back in 2005. The entire theater is a magnificent work of art.
