Teaching in Korea has had many ups and downs but easily one of the highlights of my workweek this semester has been my after-school class. They are energetic and very talented when in comes to their English, artistic, and social skills and they have been consistently giving me the highest caliber work every time we meet.

This video includes the work of 8 students. If you skip to the next student you will get a good idea of what an advanced English level is in middle school.

Today's Activity: Alien Art
Time: 80min
Goal: Students are able to express themselves in writing and then in front of the class while giving a short presentation about their own creation.
How:
5~10 min: Warm up, review of last class' materials, today's date, news
30~40 min: Introduce the objective (draw your own alien, name it, describe it, give a speech);
Allow them ample time to complete their drawings and their written section.
10min: BREAK (this is the time where you the teacher can correct any written mistakes as preparation for their actual speech)
Remainder of class: Review the basics of good speech-giving, proceed to have all the students in turn give a speech followed by questions.

  • omfg the substitute teacher looks very young and how old are you?? my guess would think your age 16. lol :o

  • @Skribbles170

    Hahahaha (^-^) Thank you very much~ I was not the substitute teacher though (can you believe that??) I graduated from college and went right to Korea and stayed there for a year. Definitely worth it.

  • The second guy could speak really well. I honestly though I was going to here a lot of "hele is my arien picshuhh" (not trying to sound racist or anything,but that's honestly what it sounds like for some people)

    The girl with the alien 'coco' was really adorable & the girl at 7:43 has really good drawing skills.

    :D

  • @heylomadie

    That 7:43 girl definitely was just about the best artist in the entire school, yeah! We were always very impressed. Are you teaching in Korea as well?
