Southern Comfort was a Washington, DC- area Dixieland jazz band that played from 1973 until 1995. They performed for 13-1/2 years in Shakey's Pizza Parlors -- 9-1/2 years in Rockville, Maryland, and then 4 years in Fairfax, Virginia. They played in jazz festivals and other venues in 24 states, from Maine to Arizona, and from Idaho to South Carolina. Tthe first festival they appeared in was the Spoleto USA Festival in Charleston, SC. The band played sets for three days, and closed the festival by appearing as the opening act for Ella Fitzgerald's concert. Band personel changed over the years, but many of the members were with the band for ten years or more. Leader and trombonist Al Brogdon was the sole remaining original band member at the time Southern Comfort disbanded. More historical notes will accompany other YouTube videos of "Dixieland by Southern Comfort" as they are added later.
