How much do I love Citroens? I just bought An SM. A mint-condition, 51,000 mile, 1973 SM, a timeless French classic whose 40th birthday was feted last month by Autoblog. What's an SM? It was Citroen's flagship from 1970-1973, a 2-door coupe that became Motor Trend's 1972 Car Of The Year, and both I and my father's dream car. Despite its rarity then and now, SM's are strangely affordable...if you can find one sans rust. I did, which is why I now have something in common with Jay Leno, Leonid Brezhnev, Lee Majors & Graham Greene.

How much do I love this car? This is the car I will leave my first-born. Seriously.

  • SM is for "Série Maserati". But once maintained by Georges Régembeau, the French SPECIALIST and lover of that car, it was so perfect that it could go for long without any problem, so SM was for "Sa Majesté". It was hard to maintain it, because the Citroën Network was not adapted for a true GT like that, so a lot of those really were bad maintained. Georges Régembeau was an exception, like Tony for the Maserati Biturbo in the North of Italy 4 example: they made the car go better than the factory!

  • Good film, but ends abruptly, is there a part 2? No SM yet, but I've had 14 XM's & 7 CX's, a DS will be along soon ;-)

  • carcast sent me looking for this car

  • ......beautiful....too bad it had the ugly American headlight conversion.
