Silicon Valley media innovator Peter Hirshberg says that Application Program Interfaces (APIs), a system developed at Apple to leverage database functionality, have obliterated boundaries to business development across enterprises and allowed for the rapid implementation of business ideas that combine media, platforms and data.

In this video interview, Hirshberg discusses Application Program Interfaces with Ideas Project, a new website brought to you by Nokia. Ideas Project is an online space that provides a new way to interact with thought leaders and their big ideas about the future of connected communications. For more on this idea from Hirshberg, visit http://www.ideasproject.com.

Peter Hirshberg has been a Silicon Valley executive and a thought leader in emerging media for more than 20 years. As chairman of Technorati, he has overseen a boom in user-generated content, tracking over 100 million Web logs and 70,000 posts per hour. His tenure as chairman or CEO of three successive companies, Gloss.com, Interpacket Networks, and Elemental Software, was marked by phenomenal success in the online arena. He ran Enterprise Marketing for Apple Computer for nine years and grew business and government revenue to $1 billion annually. Hirshberg's new-media strategy clients have included America Online, Microsoft, NBC Television Network, Estee Lauder, Pacific Bell and Silicon Graphics. A founder of Goodmail Systems, board member of ICTV, and advisory board member of start-ups Ideeli and Aniboom, he is a Trustee of The Computer History Museum and a Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute. He earned his bachelor's degree at Dartmouth College and his MBA at Wharton.

Ideas Project, a project of Nokia, brings together the most visionary and influential big thinkers to contemplate the big ideas that matter most to the future of communications.
