The Beslan massacre was a three day hostage-taking of over 1,100 people which ended in the deaths of least 334 people including 186 children with hundreds more injured and many missing. It involved a group Ingush and Chechen militants taking over School Number One in the town of Beslan, North Ossetia on 1 September 2004.
