These are video examples of a quick study I'm looking at. I'm looking at around a half dozen games from each console I have, and comparing the times from when you start up the console to the player's first interaction in the game's main menu. Featured here are original Nintendo games.

Times are approximately from initial power-on (the brief video flash/distortion to the first main menu with choosable options.
Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt - 2 seconds
Mega Man 2 - 7 seconds
Bionic Commando - 2 seconds
Super C - 2 seconds
R.C. Pro-AM - 1 second
Dr. Mario - near instantaneous
Double Dragon 2 - 5 seconds

  • i agree with him

  • @EnordAreven I'm guessing you're referring to the 'what's the point' question; if not, then please disregard this. I already made my reply to this question to the previous comment, so please read that.

  • Ok,but..what's the point..?

  • @ThrashMetalForces I should also add that if you check my uploads, I put up everything I recorded for this for some visual proof I didn't pull times out of my ass. It's somewhat eye opening going back and looking at how much more waiting we as players sit through over the years, and this is just during start up sequences, let alone other wait times during a game for loading and whatnot.

  • @jt4mtb Oh.I get it..But you seem to take a while in the menus, you don't try to be as fast as possible..What gives?

  • @ThrashMetalForces Any particular example? I thought I tried to advance as quickly as possible to reach the first menu of any given game; though I admit the one here with mario/duck hunt isn't as fast as it could be. It's just that some games don't take in button inputs immediately to skip things (Mega Man 2). While the videos show me lingering at a menu, my times only go to when I reach a menu; I just let the video record me moving a cursor to show that I have control then.

  • @jt4mtb I see,yes Mega Man was the one I had in mind, but since you explained that,I guess I have no more questions ;) Creative idea by the way.

  • @ThrashMetalForces As it says in the description, I was doing a quick study on how long players wait to start playing a game, from powering on a console to actually gaining control at a menu. I did testing on every console I had available to gather my info to show the progression of loading times; from NES' couple second loading here to nearly a minute or more on modern day consoles.
