My pa was a Marine over there in '67-'69. Certain images of childhood are locked in your mind forever. I still see mom packing a few things in a small cardboard box to send to southeast asia, silly items to remind him of us back home.She'd hold up a little tape recorder & my siblings and i would take turns saying 'hi daddy'. We were all so young, Never thought about it then, but now i picture the tears falling from my father's face as he heard our voices while in Danang Vietnam . R.I.P pa

No, he wasn't KIA. When he came back we lived & learned the meaning of Post Tramatic Stress. He was a Gunnery Seargent - died in the 90's. I'm sure the people of Vietnam had it horrible with bombs and killing everywhere.

My dad said that when the viet cong started shelling & shooting at them - they often had to radio for permission before they could shoot back. He would take shelter in a walk in safe during some attacks. Years later he told me the war was a big waste, rarely spoke of it.
