Globalization Documentary Abstract
Our group, globalization persuasion, chose to present a documentary on the issue of poverty and homelessness. The main reason for this topic choice came from our groups passion and understanding for what it means to live in poverty. We became aware of how we could use our skills, education, and personal experiences to help bridge the gap between those living in poverty and other members of society. This created a motivation within us to show our classmates how they can also become involved in this issue and show them real-world examples of helping on a local level.
The documentary incorporates our views on Thomas Friedmans definition of globalization in The Lexus and The Olive Tree, as well as how globalization affects modern society and impacts local economies. We demonstrated how poverty is an issue that affects everyone even if it is not directly a current cause for concern in our own lives and in our families. To help achieve a student perspective, our group interviewed three students at Auburn and asked them various questions related to poverty. The answers our student interviews gave us about poverty and homelessness in America were a base for what we need to inform our peers about in our documentary.
Our group chose to show tent cities because many people are unaware of all the cities they are lurking beneath. Also, they draw a connection that the economy has put people out on the streets before, during the Great Depression, and people are pulling together like they did in those times within the tent cities of America. We are proud of our documentary and believe it will inform many in a positive way and inspire them to become more aware and make a difference in our community.
So do americans still think EUROPE is on the wrong way if it does not want the hardcore capitalism?
I know that i rather have a lower income and a safety net. But the truth is. West europe has higer REAL income and a safety net because it didn't bite in the neoliberal ideology/lie so vigourosly, where richer get richer and poor people end in tent cities at bitter low temperatures.
