Derrick was obviously not too interested in the daughter, otherwise he would have had no problem with Nathan's requests.....It's a good way to weed them out (shows your love for your children)

@mamasuzie Trust me, i have some cop friends at Church that said you can't do a background check with out a reason to do so. He didn't even meet the kid yet. And that is why it was not in the movie.

@RBHILL300 how did he commit a crime by doing a background check? It's no different than a future employer doing one on someone they want to hire to work for them. I don't see it. If you could check someone out before you or your child dated someone would you?

if a boy doesn't respect a girl's parents, he won't respect her. Dads please don't let your daughters find this out the hard way. Nothing good will come out of it.

Derrick is super fine just needed structure n guidance need more men to step up and be more mentors wonderful movie powerful message u still fine remind me of my ex hate u had to experience but u wouldn't have became a better man plus need more Nathans

@jayNicks10 If you read the book Nathan does a background check on Derrick before they even meet. So Nathan committed a crime himself.

Okay Nathan was actually petty nice. Derrick could have easily been more polite. Nathan was basically giving Derrick chances to make a good first impression on him.
