This is the way Jon Gnagy introduced each of his television drawing lessons, with the musical theme of "The Artist's Life" in the background. Visit the Jon Gnagy webpage at: http://www.tseymour.com/gnagy.html

  • I remember this show well when I was a young kid in the 1950s and his ability to create pictures on a blank sheet of paper inspired me to try and learn to draw.

  • i used to watch his programs on tv when i was a kid.

it has still stuck with me, since i still love to draw ans sketch in my spare time.

beloved atr techer jon gnagy, R.I.P.

hope i can see you at the Gates, so you can show me around, and more lessons sitting at your feet in "How To Draw"

  • When I was a kid, about 9 years old, I got a Jon Gnagy drawing kit for Xmas. This would have been around 1971 when Gnagy was no longer on TV, but I guess they were still selling stuff with his name on it. I didn't even know who he was, except they had his picture on the box in a TV screen, so I guessed he must have done art on TV, but until I saw this, I had never actually seen any part of any of his shows.

  • We'll be right back...

  • I watched this as a kid, now he looks like a cool version of Sandy Becker !

  • Thank you to Exprex for submitting these. A real joy. I spoke (through email) with his daughter not long ago and she is thrilled that so many are discovering her father's contribution to art instruction.

  • MickeyT54, that's a good fit. i would've imangine nothing overly dramatic.

  • I would think it would have something to do with a sponsor and upcoming commercial.

  • Oh, this is so awesome ... Like stepping back in time. It's been FIFTY years since I've seen this and I must emphasize how grateful I am for Exprex providing this rare, high-quality footage to us. Yes, I now can clearly remember Jon Gnagy's distinctive show opening. Thank you, Exprex ... Thank you!

  • blastingrod...great comment. but does any one know what he says as the camera fades out? if not, i won't drab on it.
