A Swiss Airbus 319 (tail number: HB-IPT), operating flight LX1311 to Zurich, struck birds while departing St. Petersburg Pulkovo airport in Russia. The multiple bird strike caused vibrations in both engines. The crew declared and emergency and returned to Pulkovo airport for an emergency landing.
The air traffic control recording is from Radioscanner.ru. I edited the air traffic control conversation audio to remove some parts in Russian, and provided the subtitles.

  • "Becaaaussseeee Catttcchhhhh bird!" why does he say bird so fast?

  • because cath birds lol....

  • they took gypsies out of the streets and gave them vodka for talking a bit in the mics

  • I caught 28 birds with my engine, now I want you to smoke a tractor with my company

  • The poor pilot!!!

  • This is one very "steadfast" video. =p

  • WTF they didn't know English Normaly, how they can work? 2 engine problems it means 28 problems? Shiiiit :| :D

  • wtf? it's a disgrace to ATC. i'm fuckin speachless.

  • Terrible ATC. Well done to that Russian pilot who pointed out ATCs bad behaviour. If somebody declares a mayday you do not harass them. He told ATC his problem already. He is now very busy trying to save his own life and his passengers. Not have a chat about birds. What an idiot. ATC centres with international traffic should speak better English.

  • I' m really concerned with the english they use, I'd be really mortified with this situation because you as a pilot would be uncertain as if the tower is aware of the whole situation... I'm not a big fan of ruling the whole aviation in english but that's the way it is and we all have to be qualified to do so!
