Suicide, Atheism And Ramifications

What are the implications of suicide in religion, especially Roman Catholicism? Does religion offer comfort to the families of those that commit suicide? What does atheism have on offer?

My thoughts on what religion offers the bereaved can be summed up around the 4:20 mark or so.

do you by any chance know if in the US people who've committed suicide are still refused to have church funerals very often? I am doing a little bit of research on that right now and find the topic quite confusing.

I can't speak with any authority on that, I simply know what church doctrine is and canonical laws state. I can't see why the church doctrine would be applied any differently in the US, however, I have heard stories of priests allowing funerals for those that committed suicide. How accurate these stories are, I've no idea.
