this is the crossing I designed and built for HO. I used the BD20 block detector, and hand built the cantilevers. I used LED's for the lights, and the bell is a circuit bought from Greenway products. The circuit is my design. This is an industrial area so there is no approach to the crossing or the hoppers at the mine would keep the gates down. One wheel set on all cars has a 5K resistor in them to shunt the rails. JB wheels makes a good set. Walthers carries them.

  • I use Magnet or motor winding wire from the local electrical out let for the wires in the Mast to the LED's, But I just use regular 18 ga. wire for everything between the mast's and the board.

  • Was the bell coming from the crossing or is it fake?

  • The bell is a sound board I bought from Greenway Products on line. It is showing right now for $35.00. Look up Electronics, then big sound, then grade crossing sounds.

  • How much was that crossing?

  • Well, the crossing was about $45.00, because I made everything my self. Oh wait...the crossing gates are not mine....I don't recall now how much they were. I think they are N.J. International.....

  • do you buy any chance have the schematic for this?

    if so please and thankyou

  • I actually do have a schematic diagram for this. The most difficult part is making the gates, and crossing cantilevers. Anyone can contact me at coalboilergeneratorman at juno com. I will have to dig through my CD's to see if I have a digital copy of what I did, or maybe I can just make up a new one. Send me your address and I can mail you a copy.

  • Great signals!! Where did you buy the electrical wire for the signals?

  • many real railroads operate thier signals this way, the train needs to slowely approach the circuit and then stop on it to initiate the "Shunt" to make the relay drop and gates and light activate, so this isn't at all that unprototypical.
