I think it's humorous as well. My mom used to play this song on the piano and we used to joke that it sounded like mice and elephants, because of the abrupt shifts from piano to forte and back again.

Love this piece! Does anyone know where one can listen to this as a piano solo? I think this is a humorous piece of music. Beethoven makes great use of the accelerando in this music. Very march-like. It never abandons its light quality.
