Hailed as an exceptionally communicative interpreter, Maria made her debut at the age of 11 performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 at the Rendano Theatre of Cosenza, Italy.

After graduating with distinction from the Milan Conservatoire in 1996, she studied at the École Normale de Musique in Paris and at the Accademia Internazionale di Imola with Franco Scala and Boris Petrushanky. In 2007 she graduated with distinction from the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome under the guidance of Sergio Perticaroli.

Maria has been awarded numerous prizes in international piano competitions including the Sulmona, the Ostuni and the Senigallia competitions in Italy. In 2004 she won third prize in the J. S. Bach International Competition of Saarbrücken (Germany) gaining critical acclaim: "The crystal-clear sound, the ever-audible structure and stimulating phrasal articulation made this an ideal interpretation" (Allgemeine Zeitung).

In the 2005 San Giovanni Teatino International Piano Competition, Maria won first prize and the special Lazar Berman prize for the best performance of an étude by a Russian composer. In the 2006 Camillo Togni International Piano Competition, she won second prize (first prize not awarded), as well as the Schubert prize. In 2008 she won first prize in the Shura Cherkassky International Piano Competition in Milan.

Maria has performed across Europe, including in Russia; she has recorded for Saarländischer Rundfunk (German radio), classicaviva.com and several television channels. Her concerto repertoire includes Schumann's Piano Concerto, Chopin's No. 1 and Prokofiev's No. 1. She currently lives in Paris.

  • As a Scriabinist even tho just a hobbyist, I love this son. & realize it has confounded critics since its first performance. I have many recorded versions, seen it played "live", played it myself & know how hard it is to make this into a great work of art. Even Scriabin didnt mark any notations in the manuscript (according to Bowers biog.) I really appreciate this reading & hear so much phrasing & tone production, esp in mvt 2. A true example of sublime music making. Thanks for posting
