It isn't so much a song as a tale and a history lesson. Songwriting has been missing from country music since about 2000....every song these days is the same thing. Old country music had meaning, passion, and power. It had a story to tell. It talked of love and heartache, of real relationships and forever love, not just sex. I miss it.

Yes, the south used to be solidly Democratic (hence the name 'solid south'). Roosevelt's New Deal (Social security, public works projects) and Johnson's Great Society (Medicare, Medicaid) helped a lot of impoverished areas in the south. Too bad both political parties are now corrupt and don't care at all about the American people.

Honestly, I liked your comment, but I think that THEY think they care about the people, they just don't realize how messed up they are in their attempts. The Democrats think that stealing other people's money to pay for others is "caring" about people, yet they only care about certain people. The Republicans think that by preserving traditions that they are caring, but again, they make the same mistakes. Personally, I'm Libertarian, but the modern "Democrats" nowadays are the worst by far.
