this series was only a disappointment to this aspect. Rei and Shinji should have hooked up in the series. That in my opinion is the biggest flaw which is why i give it 4.999999/5

Well the closest thing you'll get to Shinji and Rei is by reading the manga, due to all the subtext and such.
