@Antithropocentric mild case? you mean the early stage? it will get worse of course but he may have years of good life left in him so its important we dont stigmatise i.e. what he said.

He's got a relatively mild case of it at this point, which makes this not such a great example.

How do I do this?

I agree with this last comment. As a caregiver for someone with Alzheimer's, I'm sure you can appreciate that every aspect of daily life has been affected for me, as well--much like the son you described. How should we handle things that have to be taken care of? To say things are frustrating is the understatement of the year. Sometimes you don't have the option of filling something out at a later time or sparing your loved one from seeing they did something wrong and having to fix it.

Richard, I appreciate what you have to say about the form being filled out incorrectly, and I can see the other side how it would hurt ADLO's feelings- but from your point of view, how should this situation been handled differently?

My mother survived breast cancer. Then survived a cancer on the brain, which then, along with smoking, possibly caused the vascular dementia that caused swallowing difficulties, which caused pneumonia, which caused us to lose her last year.
I wish I'd realized I was doing this with her. I didn't know any better; didn't know any other way. It wouldn't have taken much effort…just interacting in a different way.
Thank you for putting this out there, so others can know better; a different way.

i feel so sorry for you, pauswa1966, you are completely clueless about the point to the story. maybe you would understand better if your father, today came into the bathroom to wipe your backside...you would be horrified, embarrassed.. that is the point he is trying to make here...RESPECT and understand that with Alzheimer's you cant do things you have done your whole life and someone just walked in and is going to do it for you, of course it's for your own good, after all they love you

If a man fills out the form incorrectly, it's important to get the right information. Is the son supposed to leave the information incorrect so the father doesn't know anything is wrong, just so his ego is okay? The son did the right thing whether the dad likes it or not. That's life. Deal with it. It's a good thing there's a son who cares enough to pay attention and help.
I really commend this man. Living with that must be really tough. I hope life treats him well.
