Huddie William Ledbetter aka Lead Belly, (1888-1949) born on the Jeter Plantation near Mooringsport, Louisiana was an iconic American folk and blues musician, notable for his strong vocals, his virtuosity on the twelve-string guitar, and the songbook of folk standards he introduced. He is best known as Lead Belly. Though many releases list him as "Leadbelly", he himself spelled it "Lead Belly". This is also the usage on his tombstone, as well as of the Lead Belly Foundation. Lead Belly recorded this one in 1940 with the Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet (Golden Gate Quartet) -wikipedia. You can hear this song by the "Tarbox Ramblers", a Neo Hillbilly Alternative Blues band ... http://youtu.be/RivZTDLDYVs
