Woooow, talk about being offensive! I was totally with you until you decided to talk about changing names.
While I do understand where you're coming from, I don't think someone needs to hide who they are.
If a company is willing to discriminate based on a name, do you really want to be working for them at all?
Aside from that. Major congrats on the new job!!

would it be a good idea if i have various certificates and i make a photocopy of them and attach them to my applications. would it make me a better candidate?

Know the vid is old but still want to comment. I went to put in an application on today and utilized your tips. I concentrated on my attire, dressed as if I could work there already (retail job), polite and smiled when I went in, and inquired about the process after filling out the app. I am a few years older than, but we can learn from anyone. Thanks for the tips!

I really just depends on the state that you live in and their rules/regulations for obtaining your certification as CNA. I'm a R.N. in NC and we require that CNAs go through training and then site for the exam but it didn't use to be that way. Before you could just demonstrate 2-3 skills in front of a R.N./take the exam/pass it/pay $100 exam fee. Each state is different and usually has some department that handles certification of CNAs. Just do an internet search based on your state. Good luck!

Belated Congrats on your job! I agree with almost all of your wonderful tips except for the name thing. I have an African/African American name that I absolutely love & would never abbreviate for a job. I just graduated with my masters degree/ went back into the workforce as a R.N. (home health) & there aren't many black nurses in my area but the health care field is almost always in need for workers/offer great jobs. I hope you go on to become a R.N. b/c you would love it and the pay is great!

Congrats on the new job. Good tips also alot of ppl don't realize all those things you stated. I have a great mom like you and she taught me about those things you touched on. I have an interview tomorrow and am praying that I get it. But I know if its for me then I have nothing to worry about and if not my time will come.

Wonderful video. I just wanted to add something about hair. We need to be mindful of our hairstyles when looking for jobs. I used to have locs and I would change the color of my locs often, but when I went into job hunt mode I would tone my color down .and style my conservatively. Make sure your hair is always neat and save your super duper fun styles for the weekend or until after you get the job and learn the culture of your organization. Blessings to everyone who is looking for a job.
