  • This is a fine performance of a difficult piece. Now that you tube have lifted their upload limit, it is now possible to hear this whole piece in its entirety and having carefully listened to this I have noticed several deviations from the original transcription which was made by Andres Segovia. However, some of these modifications, in particular the variation which is marked by the note A played 'ostinato' , sound very much like the transcription which was made by Narciso Yepes.

  • @bernieholland775 :

thank you for your kind comment! indeed, there are some differences between the transcription I play (like I mentioned at the beggining of the piece, this is made by Frédéric Zigante) and the ones that you mention. After a carefully research on the baroque style, I retain that this transcription is the most accurate, it reflects (as much as possible..) the original Chaconne for violin and in the same time it takes advantage of the qualities wich the guitar has.

  • It is very interesting to hear different interpretations of this piece. I once performed it myself using the Segovia transcription but there are other versions, one by Narciso Yepes on the 10 string guitar (which I mentioned before) and very good performances by Julian Bream, Alirio Diaz and John Williams. In the biography of JS Bach (in three volumes) by Philip Spitta you there is some evidence that Bach himself would sometimes improvise upon his own compositions.
