This is my English project on James Joyce and his novel A Portrait of the Artist. I attribute the tendonitis in my elbow to this project.

Joyce tried to separate himself from the catholic church unsucessfully.Religion reappears again and again. In "Araby" he says he walked through the dirty streets,holding his love aloft like a chalice,over the heads of the crowd.(not a direct quote).

Joyce recognised the provincialism of Dublin which still exists today.... always looking to London for approval, the cracked looking glass of a servant.. he choose another path.
