Typical Wagner. The characters talk about the duel for ten minutes, and then the actual duel lasts like, thirty seconds.

Agree, the swords look more suiting some science fiction movie rather than a medieval fairytale, I suppose the director put some simbolism in it, however it still feels like disturbing element in the production

actually the music is what matters here.
Lohengrin appeared almost out of thin air (on a swan on the river) to save the falsely accused Elsa by being her knight in a Gottesgericht (duel for the proof of her innocence).
The herald just announces the duel and the rules (God will be the judge and no-one is allowed to interfere...) Chorus repeats. King elaborates...
Then they all pray except for Ortrud the sorceress. She trusts her husband's strength.

a few subtitles would come in handy to understand what are they saying...even i dont understand a single word i can't stop watching....nice
