Here is a great version of a Dixieland jazz classic by the Cell Block Seven recorded from an old Columbia label 78 rpm record from 1953. Nice Dixieland jazz in the style of Lu Watters. This band was formed in the early 1950's at SMU. I'm slowly finding out who was in the band.

First was Tommy Loy on trumpet.

  • My Dad was Tommy Loy (passed away in Oct. 2002) and he was part of this group when he attended SMU here in Dallas in the 50's. The banjo player is Ed Bernet, the trombone player is T.A.M. Mott - I'm not sure who the other musicians are but I can ask my Mom as she will know.

  • I went to school with Joe Ed Savage (banjo/guitar) in Dallas during the mid-50's.

We were in a kid's stage band - "The Rebellaires". He died in Oklahoma in 1961

in an oil company helicopter crash.

Big loss - everyone liked him.

  • Always a great tune! Thanks!

  • Anything by Lu Watters keep them coming!

How about " I going down to Bodega" with Barbara Dane around 1963!
