  • Ermm....the Gyakute( Spelling?) Reverse grip seams pretty awkward when you draw. Is it because you're not used to that particular draw/style, or is it generally unwieldy as a whole? I personally find that other than the drawing, it's not that bad to use.

  • @chewgd There are many variations of drawing, which you must practice, because your environment or the opponent's position and form of attack will not always permit you to draw in your favorite way. You could be up against a wall or jammed up against multiple attackers for example.

  • I couldn't help but notice the polearm hanging on your wall at the beginning of the video (a naginata or guan dao perhaps?) and was wondering whether or not you trained with it, what belt is usually required to do so, and whether or not you were planning on making a video on it?

Also, you have a quite beautiful sword :)

  • @Cryptiic6 Thanks for noticing the custom weapon. We haven't thought of making a video with it, but that's a good idea and we will keep it in mind.

  • yes, i've learned this draw(edge turned down), but never taught the Japanese term for it. How is that spelled as well as the first one and te reversed hand position? this way i can pass this on to my students instead of just referring to edge down draw, reverse grip draw, etc. Thanks and really appreciate the info. also glad to see just how similar the methods i use are to the Togakure (Bujinkan) since i've been so greatly influenced by Hatsumi and Stephen Hayes in my martial arts journey.

  • @TheDelsinsean Thanks and we will try to put something up about this in future when we get some extra time during future taping sessions. Right now we publish all that kind of information in detail as part of our video course "Basics of Ninja Training" that you can download or get DVD or BluRay. Our web site has more info about that if you think it would help you in the meantime. Thanks for watching!

  • @NinjaLearningNetwork If I may, I'd like to add to this:

It seems to me that even "right" techniques can feel awkward at first because it's not fully grasped - thus you do it "roughly" the correct way, but not entirely. It's like chess, you learn the basic rules, but then you use long years mastering it even though you already know the theory.

Also, consciously trying out things incorrectly, is also important for understand why something is good or bad.

  • nice video

  • nice video

  • I got a katana, but once fell on the blade ink, leaving ink stains, it is possible to remove them?

  • Gyaku te is not for that way of attack, why would you do that when you can do nuki uchi. Gyaku te is a technic for striking an opponent who is coming from behind, or to do kiri age which instructor later show. Anyway those are just details, but very good video.

  • @Colton24Easterday Yes the scabbard can be damaged but if you regularly oil your weapon it will help keep the inside of the scabbard in good condition to withstand many years of hard re-sheathing - that is very important.
