@Marydawgs obviously the equipment america supplied ,made all the difference ,but in return you had lend lease , plus exchange of technology ,america received a fair bit ,including the lastest radar technology, the german code that was broken, the mustang was a fighter produced to british requirements, the british engine in it made it the best fighter of ww2 ,and americans used them to escourt their bombers ,anyway we all played as vital part ,and i doubt if any of the allies would of won alone
@Marydawgs like us america to were way behind in tank technology, yes the sherman and grant were used by the british as you could produce them by the thousands , still not a match for the best german tanks, the cromwell and comet were good, but not as good as the best german armour, the british put the 17pdr gun in the sherman which could take out a tiger ,sherman firefly , the centurion came in to late ,but would of been a match ,for the tiger
@Marydawgs im not knocking the US marines in ww2 ,read a fair bit about them ,as you say ,every island was defended to death usually, the places you mentioned plus iwo jima, peleliu the phillipines etc, it was very hard going without doubt ,cant say anything against them as the japanese deserved everything they got
@TheMightOfTheEnglish They had a lot of ground troops. After Midway,June 1942,they were on the defensive. They lost their carriers and their fighter pilots and they couldn't replace them.Still hard going on Gudalcanal,Tarawa,Okinawa.Know men that fought in the Pacific with the Marine Corps.Couldn't meet nicer guys.
@TheMightOfTheEnglish No,he always pussyfoots around.Drove US leaders crazy.Patton's casualty rates were lower than a lot of others. So you're wrong about that.Figures.
@Marydawgs he beat us to messina because we were doing all the fighting up the east coast ,id have monty over me any day over that loose cannon patton
@Marydawgs we used the sherman as it was mass produced on a vast scale , nothing we both had could match the tiger or panther , wasnt until 1945 we developed the centurion ,by then it was to late , you didnt need the extra troops in the pacific , the marines coped quite well, every island youu took, you had more troops than the japanese, in every assault ,
@TheMightOfTheEnglish The Sherman tank was better than anything you had.If it wasn't why use them?If you were so well equipped,we should have stayed out.We could use our troops in the Pacific, where they were needed.
@TheMightOfTheEnglish Yes,a hard fight that was fought by many brave men.

@TheMightOfTheEnglish No,he didn't and Patton still beat him to Messina.Says a lot about Monty's slow moving way of pursuing the enemy.
