on August 13, 2009 I filmed a so-called nacreous cloud (see Wiki link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/polar_stratospheric_cloud) at the beach of Den Haag, The Netherlands at 08:33 pm (german time, I think that's CET). Later, when I checked the video I found on the footage a bright shining star-like object which I hadn't noticed while filming. I think it couldn't have been Venus because I guess (*) Venus is located far in the East at that time of the day (if visible at all). Since the sun is visible, too in the video an astronomer might find out if the position of Venus at that specific time and location was the same as the object depicted. If it was not Venus, what was it, an UFO perhaps ?

exact coordinates (GE) of my viewpoint:

52° 4'33.16"N, 4°13'40.65"E

*** Update August 17, 2009 ***

I've just checked on http://www.calsky.com to see if it could have been a daytime Iridium flare or other satellite (very rare events). The calculation returned nothing for the time in question. Thus, it's very unlikely that it was a satellite. Last possibility I can imagine (besides an UFO): slow moving airplane that reflected sunlight or a helicopter with its floodlights turned on. But I doubt that this was the case since I haven't observed any helicopter in that area before or afterwards. If it had been an airplane there should have been a contrail - couldn't find any in that particular area. A definite answer to that question would be if the flight control had something unidentified on radar. If anyone knows how to obtain such information please let me know !

*** Update August 19, 2009 ***

I've just analyzed frame per frame of the original video and found out that the object was in the same position for at least 12 seconds (before and afterwards the object is not visible due to a too low zoom factor). This ''should'' exclude an airplane unless it was flying exactly into my direction.

*** Update August 27, 2009 ***

(*) my guess was wrong. The postion of Venus at the specific time, date and location was, according to http://www.calsky.com:

height: -8.05763°
azimuth: 322.0453° direction: NW

thus, two hours earlier Venus would have been approximately in the observed position but at 08:33 pm it was 8° below the horizon, i.e. invisible.

  • this is a real f#@!% joke. You can see the bird(s) plain as day. You got one big pair of balls trying to put this video on here and calling it a "UFO". You either bumped your head really, REALLY hard or you need a serious pair of glasses, you know the type with the lenses that look as thick as a coke bottle, ha! ha! ha!

  • what r u talking a'bout? you either need a new pair of glasses yourself to be able to read the description or your just a troll. ho ho ho

  • Isto é o iridium flare um satelite lançado que suas antes estavam muito polidas dai o sol bate nas antes fazendo o flash ir para terra isto acontece todo dia :) não confundam nada a ver com UFO.[This is an iridium flare satellite launched their earlier were very polite give the sun hits in before making the flash go to land that happens every day:) do not confuse anything to do with UFO.]

  • it´s a iridium flare! a satellite!

  • You're looking at a sun dog.

The bright spot might be an airplane. When airplanes are this low above the horizon, it's really hard to see their movement because they are very far away from you. You can't always see airplane contrails. They only become visible when the airplane is flying in higher altitudes. It's much colder up there making the contrails condens immediately.

It was not a celestial object. Only the moon is bright enough to be visible to the naked eye during the day.

  • It looks like a plane with it´s landinglights on.

  • omfg that's a bird -.-'
