It's merely a warning for those who think that a job in games development is about sitting in front of a computer, playing games and your ideas just magically come to life after a few weeks of work. Those who are truly passionate about videogames development do it anyway, despite the 18 hour days. There's many a crunch-time that has led to people burning out completely but these people do it solely because they want to make good games.

Well, the way the industry is going, it's not actually gamers making games anymore. It's faceless suits like EA making the same game over and over, there's very little creativity anymore.

This is true for the entertainment industry as a whole. It's stressful and a lot of your work will be in a database, not the finished product (it doesn't belong to you.) Say goodbye to most of your non-work friends. You might never get to work at your dream studio, on your dream franchise. Post-project layoffs are common. You will sleep under your desk during crunch time and won't get paid for it. There is fun in the midst of it, but the reality is that it's straining in every sense of the word.
